Lindsay Johns is a writer, broadcaster and “hip-hop intellectual”.
An Oxford graduate, he was recently featured in the Channel 4 Bright New Wonders slot showcasing new presenting voices in a polemic slamming bling culture. An erudite but funky Craig David with brains for the new millennium, relishing his ability to oscillate effortlessly between the classical canon of “dead white men” and the contemporary cutting edge, Lindsay is not afraid to tell it like it is, in his own inimitable, distinctly un pc way.
With recent articles on George Steiner and Jamaicans, Obama from a mixed-race perspective (Guardian online) and the new breed of Black Conservatives (Evening Standard, May 2008), an essay on re-thinking notions of black masculinity (“In Search of Notorious PhDs”) published in the book The Contemporary Reader (2007), and with several features on Radio 3’s Nightwaves, Lindsay is Britain’s much needed answer to Michael Eric Dyson. |
