About Me
I had always wanted to be on the radio, as a presenter from an early age. Initially, this desire arose from my love of music - I consider music more important than food sometimes. Back home in Sierra Leone, I already had the bug to get on the radio because, in those ‘pre-You Tube’ days, apart from devouring books, I got most of my knowledge from listening to local and international radio stations.
I was really given the opportunity to make my first, tentative steps in getting on the radio when my dad was made Minister of Information and Broadcasting. It meant that I could impress my friends by just walking into the studios of the national broadcaster and asking them to play certain records for me and my friends, or to allow me to make dedications to friends and family. You can imagine how impressed my friends were!
I have since gone on to work with the BBC World Service, BBC Radios 3 and 4 mainly doing radio documentaries covering my favourite passions: music, sports and politics. My ultimate dream is to one day establish an international Soul (real Soul)/Jazz-Funk/Smooth Jazz radio station based in Sierra Leone. I would also love do a one-to-one radio interview with Nelson Mandela. |
