Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former world champion Damon Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss and a host of others have led tributes to new Formula One champion, 23 year old Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton made history by winning the world title by a whisker at the Brazilian Grand Prix at Sao Paulo, when he slipped past Timo Glock in the final minutes of the last lap of the last race of the season to take fifth place and the consequent world title. Gordon Brown said: "I think the whole country is thrilled by his exceptional talent."I think the whole of Britain are proud of the inspirational Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren team."Tory leader David Cameron said: "Lewis is not just the youngest ever winner of the F1 Drivers Championship, he is now officially a British sporting legend and a role model for what you can achieve if you follow your dream."Damion Hill, the 1996 world champion said: "I send my heartfelt congratulations to the Hamilton family - it will have to go down as one of the most exciting Formula One races ever."It's a momentous day.
