Pupils achieving this target in English rose one per cent to 81 per cent
|
The number of students reaching the expected standard of level four in English and maths in this year's Key Stage Two Sats tests has risen, preliminary results show.
Overall, the proportion of pupils achieving this target in English rose one per cent to 81 per cent and increased by the same amount in maths, to reach 78 per cent.
The science score remained the same at 84 per cent, the BBC reports.
End-of-year school league tables for primary schools use level four as a benchmark and the government aims to have 85 per cent of children reaching this level in English and maths.
The number of students getting level five grades fell from 34 per cent to 29 per cent year-on-year in English, with maths experiencing a one per cent fall.
Earlier in the week, statisticians erroneously predicted that the number of children reaching the expected standard level would fall.
